Everything you need to know about Digital Product Passports
What is a Digital Product Passport (DPP)?+
A Digital Product Passport is a digital record containing information about a product's origin, materials, manufacturing process, and environmental impact. It's accessed via QR code and helps consumers make informed purchasing decisions while meeting EU regulatory requirements.
Is ESPR compliance mandatory?+
Yes, for products sold in the EU market. The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) will require Digital Product Passports for textiles starting in 2027-2030. Brands that prepare early gain a competitive advantage.
How long does it take to create a passport?+
Most users create their first passport in under 5 minutes. With templates and saved mills, subsequent passports take even less time. Our batch upload feature lets you create hundreds of passports from a spreadsheet.
What data do I need to create a passport?+
At minimum: product name, brand, and material composition. For a complete passport, you'll want manufacturing facility details, certifications, care instructions, and environmental data (carbon footprint, water usage). Our templates help you collect everything needed.
Can suppliers use Certico too?+
Absolutely! Our Supplier Portal lets manufacturing facilities track sustainability metrics, manage certifications, and connect with brands. Suppliers who join the directory can be discovered by brands looking for compliant partners.
How much does Certico cost?+
Certico offers a free tier with up to 10 passports — perfect for testing. Pro plans at £39/month include unlimited passports, analytics, custom branding, and priority support. Enterprise pricing available for large deployments.
Is my product data secure?+
Yes. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. We use enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure, never share your data with third parties, and offer data export at any time. Your supply chain details remain confidential.

📱 QR Codes & Sharing
How QR codes work:
Each passport gets a unique QR code that links directly to its public page. When consumers scan it with their phone camera, they see the full product story.
Download options:
PNG — Best for digital use, web, presentations
SVG — Vector format, scales perfectly for print
Where to use QR codes:
Swing tags and care labels
Product packaging
E-commerce product pages

🇪🇺 ESPR Compliance
What is ESPR?
The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) is EU legislation requiring Digital Product Passports for textiles and other products sold in the EU market.
Certico uses Ecobalyse, the French government's open-source environmental impact calculator, to provide accurate sustainability metrics for your products.
📊 How is it calculated?
Ecobalyse uses parametric Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) — not generic category averages. It calculates environmental impact based on:
Your specific materials — cotton, polyester, wool, blends with exact percentages
Manufacturing countries — where spinning, fabric production, dyeing, and assembly happen
Product type — t-shirt, jeans, dress, jacket, etc. (affects weight and processes)
Product mass — heavier products = higher impact
🎯 How accurate is it?
More accurate than category averages (like Worldly's generic estimates) because it calculates based on YOUR inputs.
Less precise than a full LCA (which costs £5-20k and takes weeks) but sufficient for EU ESPR compliance and consumer transparency.
✅ Why use Ecobalyse?
Free & open-source — developed by French government (ADEME)
EU compliant — meets ESPR environmental labeling requirements
